Ceramic ones may be a little more expensive, but they've replaced the steel in the balls with ceramic, which means they'll stay round and smooth even if moisture and dirt do everything they can to destroy them. Regular steel balls are more sensitive to this than ceramic. The result is a ball bearing that lasts better and longer over time.
