Wheels usually come with different surfaces and textures. A wheel that is not refinished has a slightly sticky surface from the start which provides extremely good grip. This is also called racing surface and is usually a structure that downhill riders prefer because the grip is extra good then. For those who are going to cruise, this surface does not play a major role. For wheels that are adapted for sliding, you usually do not want this surface on them because it usually grips extremely and can therefore be difficult to handle when, for example, standing slides. Sometimes you can wear this surface away quite quickly by riding the wheel. However, it is becoming increasingly common for manufacturers to wear the wheel down and give it a so-called stone ground so that you can slide with it immediately. However, the wheel may respond slightly differently from the first ride to a ride a little later, but the difference is then significantly smaller than if it were a race surface.
